No Retreat, No Surrender, IEEE Must STOP Cosponsoring Illegal Turkish Occupiers

In the past two weeks the power of our ordinary people, our grassroots has managed to convince the EuMA (European Microwave Association) to withdraw from the illegal Turkish occupiers’ “symposium” on Turkish microwaves in the lands and buildings stolen from our Greek-Cypriot people by the ongoing Turkish military invasion of 1974. Throughout our long history when corrupt foreign interests and brutal bullies took from us so much, it was the power of our ordinary people, our grassroots that rebuilt and kept reminding the world that our land our culture our people remain under Turkish occupation. Various agents continue to attempt to give the Turkish occupiers a false ‘legitimacy’ with the use of outright lies and false historical revisionism. We saw this with Annan and we’ve seen it accelerate. The Turkish Microwaves “symposium” managed to get the co-sponsorship of the worldwide professional organization IEEE and we learned through the honorable honesty of EuMA’s President Dr. Heinrich Wolfgang that the Illegal Turkish occupiers and their allies used lies and deceit negating Turkey’s crimes and ongoing Turkish military occupation and hiding the undeniable fact that the bandit pseudo-state is unrecognized and illegal. The battle for the future of our Greek-Cypriot people is, as we see it, won first in the hearts of all Hellenes in Cyprus and around the world, and then being able to translate it into meaningful grassroots activism to remind the world of the truth.

We are releasing some of the grassroots letters and supporter letters we were copied on and were sent in to Dr. Nicholas “Nick” Kolias of IEEE, the man in America responsible for the Turkish Microwaves “symposium” in lands and buildings stolen from Greek-Cypriots by illegal Turkish military-invasion in 1974. The letters came in from across America and CANADA , and we include the letter from the President of the Movement for FREEDOM & JUSTICE IN CYPRUS, and the recent press release from the UK-based Cypriot Student Movement Metopo.

An accomplished Greek-American leader and scientist has also joined the letter writing campaign urging IEEE to cancel their co sponsorship, we soon may be releasing this along with an extension of our pressure and protest campaign against IEEE and the illegal Turkish Occupiers. Our power to bring attention to our cause and shine the light of truth is in the hearts of each and every one of our Hellenic people who care for Cyprus . Dear Dr. Kolias:

It has come to my attention that you might be involved with an IEEE conference that will be held on the island of Cyprus in the area that is under military occupation by Turkish troops.  I don't know how the IEEE fell into such a trap but you have an obligation to warn your members and attendees that the occupied area is under control of the Turkish military.  There is no law, there are no embassies, there is nothing but Turkish soldiers armed with M-16's and they are the law.  You are placing yourself and your colleagues who may plan to attend the conference, under a tremendous and serious danger.  Your safety and security is not guaranteed by anyone, your American passport is useless and you will be jeopardizing your lives by entering an area where the only 'authority' is a Turkish army of 40,000+ fully armed Turkish soldiers.  You have an obligation to the members of the IEEE to inform them of this grave mistake that looks like it is about to be committed.

Kindly see to it that the Subject Conference is Rescheduled to another legal location as it reflects very badly on the ethics of the IEEE Group to hold/sponsor the Subject conference in the occupied by Turkish military region of Cyprus. 

Should any IEEE member get hurt in this IEEE meeting IEEE will also bear responsibility.

Please reconsider the existing situation and reschedule.

Subject: Conference on occupied territory of Cyprus

Dear Dr. Kolias,

  It is being alleged that you are one of the principal organizers of a conference under the auspices of IEEE that is being planned to be held on the occupied part of Cyprus .

 Should this be the case, I am writing to you to express my dismay on the choice of the location. As you know, Turkey invaded and still occupies the Northern part of Cyprus , and despite UN resolutions refuses to withdraw its troops from there. You are probably aware that they have illegally confiscated properties and refuse to provide compensation to the rightful owners. You are probably aware that they are plundering the religious and cultural heritage of the occupied part of Cyprus . You are probably aware that they are populating the Northern part with Turks from mainland Turkey in order to permanently alter the demographic composition of the island.

 Holding your conference in a territory that is occupied and not free and not recognized by any other nation than Turkey, constitutes a tacit approval that you agree with the occupation and the policies been pursued by the occupation regime.

 In the interest of justice, human rights and moral standards I respectfully ask you to change the location to a more suitable place.

Πρώτη επιτυχία: Αποσύρθηκε η EuMA από το σεμινάριο στα κατεχόμενα!

Όταν υπάρχει αντίσταση, υπάρχει και επιτυχία! Ο Ευρωπαϊκός Σύνδεσμος Μικροκυμάτων (EuMA), συνδιοργανωτής του συμποσίου στα κατεχόμενα, έχει ακυρώσει τη συμμετοχή του μετά από την έντονη διαμαρτυρία εξέχουσων προσωπικοτήτων ανά τον κόσμο, και ειδικότερα ακαδημαϊκών και καθηγητών πανεπιστημίων, αλλά και διάφορων μη κυβερνητικών οργανώσεων.

Αυτή είναι η πρώτη επιτυχία για εμάς και το πρώτο πλήγμα για το διεθνές συμπόσιο, που πρόκειται να πραγματοποιηθεί στα κατεχόμενα εξυπηρετώντας τις πολιτικές σκοπιμότητες της Τουρκίας και του ψευδοκράτους. Ο στόχος μας πλέον είναι να ακυρώσει τη συμμετοχή της και η ΙΕΕΕ, κάτι που θα σημαίνει και ακύρωση του ίδιου του συμποσίου ή τουλάχιστον την διεξαγωγή του μόνο με τουρκικές εταιρείες. Επομένως, οι κινητοποιήσεις και ο ακτιβισμός πρέπει να ενταθούν, ούτως ώστε να ακυρωθεί το σεμινάριο μέχρι τον Αύγουστο, που είναι προγραμματισμένο να πραγματοποιηθεί.

Η Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) είναι η οργάνωση που έχει πάρει την πρωτοβουλία για την εκστρατεία εναντίον της διεξαγωγής του σεμιναρίου από τα διεθνής φήμης ινστιτούτα στην κατεχόμενη γη μας. Έχουμε πληροφορηθεί, από την εν λόγω οργάνωση, ότι ο υπεύθυνος της διοργάνωσης του σεμιναρίου αυτού, είναι ο Dr. Nicholas Kolias. Προτρέπουμε τους συμφοιτητές μας, και γενικά όλους τους ακτιβιστές, ιδιαίτερα τους ακαδημαϊκούς και τους καθηγητές πανεπιστημίων, να ασκήσουν πίεση στον αξιωματούχο της ΙΕΕΕ αποστέλλοντας του ηλεκτρονική διαμαρτυρία, για να αποσυρθεί η ΙΕΕΕ από το παράνομο συμπόσιο στα κατεχόμενα, όπως ορθώς έπραξε και η EuMA.

Ας αποδείξουμε, για ακόμα μία φορά, πως όταν υπάρχει αντίσταση, μπορούμε να πετύχουμε!
