NEW YORK—The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) in solidarity with the Hellenic League of America (HLA) and a sea of proud Hellenic-Americans in the New York metropolitan area, will come out, FULL FORCE, to support USBA JR. WELTERWEIGHT Champion “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis, THE PRIDE OF GREECE, defending the belt in The Manhattan Center NYC, on the evening of Thursday March 06, 2008.

“Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis is living proof that Greeks,   know how to fight back, and fight back, hard.   Arnaoutis hails from the heartlands of MANI, the homeland of the Hellenic Revolution for freedom from centuries of Turkish slavery, Turkish massacre, Turkish Holocausts and brutal Turkish oppression..

“Maniots, known for their martial qualities, were the first to join the Greek liberation movement. … On March 17, 1821, 12,000 Maniots gathered in Areopolis (the city of war) and declared war against the Ottoman (Turkish) Empire. The flag of the revolution was white with a blue cross in the center. Atop the flag was the motto "Victory or death". The Maniots were responsible for writing "Victory" and not "Freedom" on their banner, since Mani was always free. At the bottom of the flag was an ancient inscription, "With the shield or on the shield."

Ibrahim (the Turkish military leader) sent an envoy to the Maniots demanding that they surrender or else he would ravage their land. Instead of surrendering, the Maniots replied:

“From the few Greeks of Mani and the rest of Greeks who live there to Ibrahim Pasha. We received your letter in which you try to frighten us saying that if we don't surrender, you'll kill the Maniots and plunder Mani. That's why we are waiting for you and your army. We, the inhabitants of Mani, sign and await you.”  (Maniots, entry in Wikipedia)

The bravery of Maniots, liberated Greece , and restored Hellas as homeland of freedom and beacon of light for all of humanity.

“Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis proves that Greeks can always count on our fighting spirit and the immortal Hellenic spirit that burns in the heart of every Maniot, inspiring every Greek around the world, to fight back, to fight for Hellenic Human rights.
