The so-called “bizonal bicommunal federation” as a “solution” to the ongoing illegal Turkish-military-occupation has never been accepted by the Greek-Cypriot people and in fact the people with 76% majority rejected it on 24 April 2004 in the referendum when they rejected the Annan Plan which was based on the bizonal aspect.
The Refugee Associations especially Adouloti Kyrenia has been against it since 1974 to this very day as well as others.
In 1979 during a meeting of the Commonwealth in Lusaka the then President Spyros Kyprianou had with British PM Margaret Thatcher the latter admitted to Kyprianou that bizonal is not to be found in any international law. (British documents for the year 1979 have been published by Mrs. Fanoulla Argyrou in Simerini in a series of publications during December 2009. (See PDF - www.simerini.com)

Also Spyros Kyprianou during his presidency asked Raouf Denktash one day as to why he was so forcefully adamant in pressing our side to accept bizonality. And Denktash replied: “Because bizonality involves borders”.
Directly below follows the official letter of ADOULITI KIRENIA (please click link for original PDF) by Mr. Cleanthis Soleas and Mr Ioannis Shekkersavvas (President and Secretary respectfully) replying to Mr. Karakostas’ support of the Turkish racist bizonal bicommunal federation. Mr. Karakostas has stated publicly that he is proud of his Cypriot heritage (his family hails from Kirenia). The Cypriot organizations mentioned IN CYPRUS have offered to enlighten Mr. Karakostas further on this issue and help him to more properly understand the Greek-Cypriot refugee perspective.
The Cyprus Action Network of America (CANA) has not included the hundreds of emails we have received on this matter of great public interest. We will continue our campaign of enlightenment on the dangers of the Turkish racist bizonal bicommunal federation, and invite any supporters of this plan to defend it in an open forum with a panel of experts facing our own panel of experts. The Turkish racist bizonal bicommunal federation cannot stand up to scrutiny and avoids the light of open debate, because it is a racist plan that is against the future of Greek-Cypriots.
